US and China consider nuclear site visits

The article discusses how the United States and China have begun talks to exchange visits to each other's nuclear sites, with the aim of building trust and preparing for broader discussions on nuclear stability. These moves come amid growing American concerns over the expansion of China's nuclear arsenal, with discussions focusing on the possibility of visiting nuclear facilities such as national laboratories and nuclear test sites. It is noted that the United States owns approximately 5,000 nuclear warheads, while China has around 600, with Beijing expanding its nuclear infrastructure and potentially producing hundreds of additional warheads over the next decade. This effort faces challenges, particularly from Beijing's refusal to enter negotiations that would restrict its nuclear arsenal, while Washington believes these visits could help reduce tensions and foster mutual confidence between the two powers.
