Tampa a Horizonless Zone Amid South Settlement Struggles

The article discusses the situation in southern Lebanon, which remains under Israeli occupation, amid ongoing tensions and the potential for military escalation. Despite attempts at negotiations in Tampa that focus on technical matters and progress slowly toward a political agreement, the Lebanese government led by Nawar Salam emphasizes the need for a complete Israeli withdrawal and the re-establishment of state institutions. It also stresses the importance of having an international force to ensure stability after the UNIFIL mission concludes. The article notes that mediation efforts have stalled due to political deadlock and the absence of a final agreement, while military risks persist with continued occupation and escalation.
