Iraq Seeks Cooperation with Russian Oil Firms

Baghdad is seeking the best ways to engage with Russian oil companies amidst the U.S. and European sanctions imposed on them. Negotiations are currently underway with the Russian side to set dates for upcoming meetings of the Joint Governmental Committee, while companies such as "Rosneft" and "Gazprom" continue their activities in Iraq and expand their projects, despite the departure of "Lukoil" due to Western sanctions. In February, Basra Oil Company signed an agreement with American company Chevron to manage the West Qurna-2 field, which "Lukoil" had been overseeing. The next meeting of the Joint Committee is scheduled to take place in December.
