Bakery Unions Commit to Legal Framework

The interventions of the Bread and Bakery Workers' Union in Lebanon in recent days are a result of logistical and administrative hardships that prevented the implementation of some agreements with the relevant authorities. The union affirms its commitment to dialogue and communication with the Ministry of Labor and official entities to ensure the continued operation of bakeries and to maintain food security. The union also emphasized the need to address issues related to work permits, fines, and overdue payments in a legal and balanced manner, reaffirming its efforts to protect the rights of the state, institutions, and workers—especially given the importance of the bread sector for social security. The union stressed its readiness to responsibly implement laws and work towards practical solutions that ensure the ongoing production of bread. It also indicated that next week will include meetings with official authorities to discuss unresolved matters.
