Fouad Hussein: Flights to Iran Boost Ties

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced the resumption of flights to Iran after the U.S. Treasury Department approved an exception for flights related to visiting holy sites from sanctions. This statement was made during his meeting with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in Washington, where they discussed Iraqi-American relations and regional developments. Bessent emphasized his understanding of Iraq's request and his recognition of the need to exempt religious travel from sanctions. The decision reflects a convergence of U.S. and Iraqi positions on facilitating pilgrims' access to holy sites and supports the development of a partnership based on mutual respect and shared interests.
