Lebanese Prison Strike Reaches Day 20

The general amnesty strike in Lebanon has entered its twentieth day, with around 530 detainees in prisons continuing their open hunger strike and refusing medication since the amnesty law was suspended by a decision from the Constitutional Court. The health situation of the prisoners has worsened, with critical cases rising to 53, amid fears of infection spreading within the prisons, especially after latent tuberculosis tests showed positive results in over 80% of those tested. This prompted X-ray examinations to verify active infections. The Lebanese Prisoners' Rights Observatory calls for an end to the suspension of the general amnesty law, considering its implementation a crucial step toward reducing overcrowding and reforming correctional facilities.
