Amnesty Strike Reaches Day 20 Amid Fair Conditions

The "General Amnesty" strike in Lebanon has entered its twentieth day, with approximately 530 inmates in several prisons continuing their open hunger strike and refusal of medical treatment in protest against the suspension of the amnesty law by a decision from the Constitutional Council. The health of some prisoners has worsened, with 53 cases now in critical condition, and fears are growing over the spread of infection—especially after skin test results showed positive indicators for tuberculosis in over 80% of those tested, exacerbating the already precarious health situation in the prisons. The Lebanese Prisoners' Rights Observatory calls for the urgent end of the law's suspension and for the implementation of the amnesty to improve prison conditions and reduce overcrowding.
