AU warns of escalation among Ethiopia, Eritrea, Egypt

The African Union expressed its concern over the escalating tensions between Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Egypt, and called on the three parties to exercise restraint and engage in peaceful dialogue to avoid military escalation that threatens regional security. It is worth noting that the three countries have longstanding disputes over geopolitical issues, most notably Egypt and Ethiopia’s disagreement over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which is considered a threat to Egyptian water resources. Meanwhile, Eritrea accuses Ethiopia of attempting to invade its ports, leading to the severance of diplomatic relations between Eritrea and Ethiopia. The Union has shown its readiness to support peaceful efforts and reduce tensions, amid fears that the region could slide into armed conflict.
