Energy agency confirms price hike

The Lebanese Ministry of Energy and Water announced an increase in the electricity rates charged by private generators for citizens. A fair rate for September has been set, ranging between 52,840 and 58,124 Lebanese Lira per kilowatt-hour, based on the type of area, its elevation, and the amperage, taking into account the price of diesel and the dollar exchange rate. An official circular was issued confirming that the new rates are aligned with the diesel price, which reached 2,675,217 Lira for a 20-liter tank in September. It also emphasized that no illegal additional charges or unjustified taxes are permitted. This step comes as part of efforts to regulate and standardize prices, with a call for generator owners to adhere to the set rates and to install meters. Additionally, there is ongoing study to update the rate formula in response to market fluctuations and economic conditions.
