Over 5,300 migrants depart Ceuta to Morocco

The Spanish government has reported that more than 5,300 migrants have left Ceuta and returned to Morocco since August 10th, following the large influx in July. Of these, 5,321 did so voluntarily, while another 90 withdrew their asylum requests, and about a thousand are being registered in preparation for their return. Madrid is facing increasing pressure due to the number of migrants, with official estimates indicating around 13,000 migrants in the city. Efforts are underway to expand the capacity of detention centers to 4,300 and then 6,000 places in an attempt to ease tensions, which are accompanied by protests and continued large numbers arriving by sea.
