Ministry of Education Denies Textbook Pricing Link

The Ministry of Education clarified that the pricing of schoolbooks in Lebanon is exclusively handled by the Ministry of Economy and Trade, in coordination with the Publishers’ Syndicate, and the Ministry has no authority to set prices. The authority to review the content of the books is limited to the Educational Center for Research and Development, which checks their compliance with curricula and ensures they do not incite sectarian tensions. Imported books from abroad are subject to the authority of the General Directorate of General Security, which approves their importation. As for national books produced by the Educational Center and adopted in public and private schools, they are sold at low prices, are not profit-driven, and the Center holds the exclusive authority to determine their pricing.
