Education clarifies school book prices

The Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education clarifies that the prices of schoolbooks produced by private publishing houses are determined by an external entity, in coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Trade and the Publishers’ Syndicate, rather than by the Ministry of Education itself. It also indicated that the responsibility for reviewing the content of books issued by foreign or imported publishers falls within the jurisdiction of the General Directorate of General Security, which inspects and approves their importation in accordance with Lebanese regulations. As for the national books produced by the Educational Research and Development Center, these are approved for use in both public and private schools and are priced by the Center without profit motive. Meanwhile, the Unified History textbook is still under revision to include curricula that encompass various narratives of Lebanon's history.
