Civil Defense Calls for Swimming Halt Amid Rising Waves

Lebanon has issued warnings from the General Directorate of Civil Defense to citizens following an increase in wave activity and strong sea currents along the Lebanese coast from Al-Abdeh in the north to Naqoura in the south, due to unstable maritime conditions. It clarified that these conditions pose a direct risk to swimmers, with an increased likelihood of drowning even in areas typically considered safe, because of high waves and powerful currents that can swiftly carry swimmers away from the shore and hinder their return to land. The Civil Defense has called on people to refrain from swimming until sea conditions stabilize, especially during the summer season when beaches are heavily frequented, in order to prevent drowning accidents resulting from ignoring warnings and safety guidelines.
