Over the past six years, Egypt has witnessed a significant improvement in cancer incidence and mortality indicators. The age-standardized mortality rate decreased by 23.1%, from 107.1 cases per 100,000 people in 2018 to 82.4 in 2024. Similarly, the age-standardized incidence rate declined by 12.3%, from 156.9 to 137.6 cases per 100,000 people during the same period. There has also been a notable reduction in both cancer-related deaths and cases, especially in liver cancer, where incidence rates dropped by 25%, from 32.2 to 24 cases per 100,000, and death rates decreased by 31.8%, from 31.8 to 21.7 cases per 100,000. These improvements are aligned with national efforts to combat hepatitis C, enhance screening and early diagnosis, which contributed to reducing the likelihood of infection and mortality before the age of 75. Increased efforts in prevention, early detection, and treatment, supported by health programs targeting risk factors and related diseases, have played a crucial role in these advances.
