Researchers from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, in collaboration with other universities, have developed a smart bandage representing a breakthrough in wound treatment. This bandage mimics the properties of natural skin, combining wound cooling and bacterial fighting through light, which accelerates healing and reduces inflammation. It consists of two layers of nanofibers reinforced with light-responsive materials, offering high flexibility and comfort. It lowers the surface temperature of the wound and kills 97.1% of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria under white light. Additionally, wounds treated with this bandage technique experienced nearly complete closure within 11 days, while promoting tissue regeneration and reducing inflammation.
