A recent study has shown that lung transplantation can be an effective option for stage IV lung cancer patients who do not have metastasis outside the lungs, involving 17 patients with increased survival rates compared to medical treatment alone. After one year, all patients who received a lung transplant were alive, compared to less than half of those treated with medications. It was also confirmed that in some cases, lung failure is the main cause of death rather than disease spread throughout the body.
