Salvia Messii Discovered in Peru

A new plant species called Salvia messii has been discovered in the Peruvian Andes and named in honor of Lionel Messi. The aromatic shrub, growing between 2,000 and 2,400 meters altitude, features white and light blue flowers that resemble the colors of Argentina’s national team. Its limited distribution has led researchers to classify it as an endangered species due to habitat threats such as fires, construction, tourism, and droughts.
