Collector pays $30, sells for $1.3M

A collector in Michigan purchased a small painting for $30, which was later confirmed as a 1951 work by the American surrealist artist Gertrude Abercrombie. The painting, titled "Alderman Merriam's Shells," had been missing for about 75 years before experts authenticated its provenance. At auction, the piece sold for over $1.35 million, setting a new record for Abercrombie's work and transforming a low-cost find into a multimillion-dollar sale.
