DP World prolongs Luanda Port concession

DP World Group has extended the concession to operate the container terminal at Luanda Port, Angola, until 2051, with a plan to invest an additional $90 million over the next two years to expand the terminal and increase its operational capacity. Since operations began in 2021, DP World has invested over $260 million, resulting in a doubling of container throughput from 177,000 to over 350,000 standard containers, through infrastructure development and increased handling equipment, thereby enhancing the terminal's ability to accommodate larger "Post-Panamax" vessels. The expansion will include the addition of 222 meters to the quay wall, a 10-hectare extension of the operational area, and an increase in capacity to 1.2 million containers annually, positioning Luanda as a key container hub in Africa, supporting economic growth, and improving regional trade flows. The group reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening trade connectivity and sustainable economic development in Angola.
