Over more than 56 years, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Gulf Cup has featured six main designs that reflect the heritage and identity of the Gulf region. The first design debuted in Bahrain in 1970, inspired by an olive branch. Subsequent designs incorporated symbols such as an incense burner and a traditional thobe, culminating in its current appearance, which was first introduced in the 2004 Gulf Cup 17 in Qatar. The current design, created by Iraqi sculptor Ahmed Al-Bahrani and manufactured by the Italian company GDE Bertoni, draws on cultural symbols like the incense burner, the shamag, and the ghutra. It is topped with a pearl, representing the region’s economic history. This design embodies the unity and interconnectedness of Gulf peoples through symbols that reflect their identity and heritage.
