Turkey and US reach nuclear cooperation deal

Turkish nuclear energy company "TûNAŞ" and the U.S. Agency for Trade and Development signed a cooperation agreement to study the design of standardized small nuclear reactors and fourth-generation reactors, with the aim of diversifying electricity sources in Turkey. The study includes an assessment of technical, economic, legislative aspects, and supply chains, and is financed by the U.S. agency at a cost of nearly two million dollars over one year. This initiative aims to enhance Turkey’s capacity to adopt modern nuclear energy technologies and to achieve its goals of increasing reliance on nuclear power and independence within its energy mix by 2053.
