Bashen: 11 sports aim for medals and 50 scholarships

The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee is focusing its efforts on 11 priority sports to achieve exceptional results in major championships. These sports include athletics, judo, taekwondo, karate, jiu-jitsu, swimming, weightlifting, shooting, equestrianism, fencing, and wrestling. The committee announced its strategy based on studies showing that most medals won by major countries in the Olympic Games come from a limited number of sports, aiming to enhance Saudi Arabia’s chances of winning medals. Additionally, the committee launched the “Sports Scholarship” initiative, which provides 50 scholarships annually to talented athletes, along with establishing elite centers in different regions to improve training and develop talents. Saudi Arabia will participate in the Asian Games in Nagoya with 144 athletes across 19 sports, as well as 44 athletes in the Asian Para Games in October, with the goal of gaining more experience and elevating the level of young athletes.
