Germany's China market declines

Germany experienced a decline in its trade relations with China during the first half of 2026, with German exports to China falling by more than 12% and dropping below 37 billion euros. Although China remains Germany’s largest trading partner, its reliance on European imports has decreased, and China has become the ninth-largest market for its exports. German imports from China increased by 8.9%, reaching approximately 91.8 billion euros, leading to a rise in the trade deficit between the two countries to around 55 billion euros, compared to 40 billion euros the previous year.
