Over 137,000 Detained for Residency Violations

During a one-week period, the relevant authorities in the Kingdom apprehended 14,970 violators of residency, work, and border security regulations. Among them, 7,437 violated the residency system; 3,991 violated the border security regulations; and 3,542 violated the labor laws. Additionally, 1,626 individuals attempted to cross the borders illegally, of whom 62% were Ethiopians and 37% Yemenis. Furthermore, 33 people were caught trying to smuggle individuals outside the Kingdom, and 18 were involved in transporting and hosting violators. It is noted that currently, 30,546 expatriates are under legal procedures, in addition to the deportation of more than 13,251 violators. The Ministry emphasized that facilitating the entry or transfer of violators will result in penalties that could include up to 15 years of imprisonment, a one million riyal fine, and the confiscation of transportation means and accommodations.
