The Shura Council made several requests and recommendations regarding the development of the tourism and economic sectors in the Kingdom. Concerning tourism, the Council urged the Ministry of Tourism to review and update its national strategy through 2030, establish a framework for measuring the economic and social impact of tourism growth, develop performance indicators to empower national competencies, and improve governance of tourist destinations as well as the quality and services offered. On the economic front, the Council encouraged the Ministry of Economy and Planning to develop mechanisms for assessing the impact of economic regulations, promote economic diversification, and craft a strategy for the Kingdom’s international engagements, aiming to increase the economic returns from the international presence and attract global economic centers and organizations. The Council also asked the Ministry to address challenges related to the preparation programs for pilgrims and to strengthen initiatives for promoting religious tourism, including the Makkah Route initiative.
