Foreign gov assists accused Saudi spy's family in US escape

A former OpenAI engineer was arrested for secretly planting recording devices inside OpenAI facilities, with investigations revealing he maintained frequent contact with Saudi royalty and sought to access sensitive company information. Prosecutors allege he researched and concealed multiple listening devices in strategic meeting rooms involved in proprietary discussions and government engagements. The investigation suggests his actions may have aimed to benefit a foreign government or advance personal interests, with concerns about potential aid from Saudi officials, including efforts to recruit him for Saudi AI initiatives. He had planned travel to Saudi Arabia shortly after his arrest, and authorities highlight his possible support from the Saudi government as a reason for his detention pending trial.
