Dem candidate's police record shows suspensions over gun theft
Johnny Garcia, a candidate for Texas’ 35th Congressional District, faces scrutiny over two suspensions during his law enforcement career, including a 2009 incident involving bringing a cell phone into a secure area and a 2020 incident where he left a firearm and badge in an unsecured vehicle, which were later stolen. Despite these suspensions, Garcia emphasizes his law enforcement background and positions himself as a centrist on issues like border security and public safety in his campaign. He is running in a competitive race following redistricting changes that have shifted electoral advantages away from his Democratic predecessor.
