Future of Marineland's 30 belugas uncertain

A group of 30 beluga whales previously held at Marineland near Niagara Falls has been transferred to facilities in the United States and Spain following the park's closure. Despite these efforts, several whales have died since the move, with causes including chronic inflammatory disease, liver issues, and ingestion of foreign objects. There are ongoing debates about providing long-term sanctuaries for captive whales, but concerns remain regarding their health and the ethics of captivity, especially since Canada banned cetacean captivity and breeding years earlier.
