Family sues over inmate's fatal neck injury
Jeffrey Fairchild died in April 2025 after suffering a neck injury caused by a sheriff’s deputy during an incident at Los Angeles County’s Twin Towers Correctional Facility. The family is suing the county and the deputy, alleging excessive force that left Fairchild quadriplegic and led to his death from complications. Federal monitors’ report indicates the deputy used excessive violence when Fairchild was walking away, contradicting sheriff’s department accounts that he charged at the officer; the department blamed Fairchild for the incident but took limited disciplinary action.
