Stipe and Watt Discuss 'Rooster' and Solo Debut

Michael Stipe is nearing completion of his long-awaited solo album, which he plans to release in May, with a single launching on New Year's Eve. After years of various projects since R.E.M.'s breakup, he collaborated with producer Andrew Watt on a song originally intended as a TV theme for the series “Rooster,” starring Steve Carell. The song features electric guitar and reflects a blend of emotional and humorous tones, inspired by the character's writing struggles. Stipe emphasized that the album is not directly political but influenced by his unique perspective and past activism, and it reflects his focus on instinctive musical expression.
