Major hurricane threatens US refining

Hurricane Isaias is threatening the US Gulf Coast amid already strained energy supplies, with approximately 25% of Gulf oil production and 16% of natural gas output shut down. Major refineries and oil platforms have evacuated personnel, risking further supply disruptions and potential price spikes, as US inventories are at their lowest levels since 1982. The storm’s impact could force refineries to reduce output, worsening global energy shortages during a period of existing geopolitical tensions.
