AfD's Rausch becomes regional parliament speaker

Tobias Rausch, an AfD candidate, was elected as the speaker of Saxony-Anhalt’s regional parliament, marking the first time a far-right party holds this position since World War II. Rausch won with support from nine MPs outside his party amid protests and criticism from regional leaders, highlighting a significant political shift. His election signals increased influence for the AfD, which is considered anti-immigrant and pro-Russian, despite opposition from other political groups and public protests.
