UK oil refinery exceeds pollution limits
Documents reveal that the Stanlow oil refinery in Cheshire repeatedly spilled toxic chemicals and oil into local rivers and the Mersey Estuary during 2023 and 2024. EET Fuels, the operator, pleaded guilty to multiple environmental law breaches related to pollution incidents, including exceeding permitted levels for chemicals such as cyanide, benzene, and sulfur dioxide. These spills have damaged protected wildlife habitats and raised concerns about environmental regulation enforcement, with investigations ongoing into the refinery's compliance and incident management.
