California school district faces crisis
The Long Beach Unified School District is proposing to close Edison Elementary and Gompers Elementary due to low enrollment and underutilization. The closures, scheduled for the end of the 2026–2027 school year, would lead students to transfer to nearby schools. Parents are actively opposing the plan, with petitions and community concerns emphasizing the schools' community value. The issue will be discussed at the upcoming Board of Education meeting.
