Iowa teacher dismissed for fundraisers

A substitute teacher in Iowa was fired for pressuring students to donate money to her personal GoFundMe for a trip to Ecuador, in exchange for extra credit. She claimed the funds would support a medical mission trip with her husband, but the fundraiser received only $140 out of an $1,800 goal. The teacher was denied unemployment benefits after a judge found her conduct demonstrated a willful disregard of her employer’s interests.
