Newsom vetoes privacy-related smart glasses ban
California Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed legislation that would have penalized the use of smart glasses for recording in private spaces and required manufacturers to include recording indicators starting in 2028. The bill aimed to enhance privacy protections amid the rising popularity of smart glasses, such as Meta’s Ray-Bans, but was criticized for being too broad and unnecessary given existing laws. Supporters emphasized the need to address covert recording concerns, while opponents argued it would unfairly impact businesses and consumers.
